How can we help?

Answers to common questions about Stethoscope: Body Sounds.

Why can't I hear anything?

Live listening plays through headphones only, so it never feeds back through the speaker. Connect wired headphones or AirPods and turn the volume up gradually. Without headphones the waveform and spectrogram still work, and saved recordings play through the speaker.

Remove the case, place the bottom microphone (beside the charging port) gently against bare skin, and keep still. Listening boost in the toolbar raises quiet sounds.

The app says it can't access the microphone.

Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and turn on Stethoscope, then return to the app. Capture starts listening automatically.

What's free, and what does Recording Plus add?

Listening, every preset, the live spectrogram and reviewing the last fifteen seconds are free. Playing, trimming, renaming and sharing recordings you already have is always free too.

Recording Plus adds recording sessions and saving clips from the fifteen-second buffer. It's available monthly or as a one-time lifetime purchase; both unlock the same features.

How do I restore a purchase on a new iPhone?

Open Capture, tap the ••• menu, choose Recording Plus, then tap Restore. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, or visit your App Store subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

For refunds, use Apple's Report a Problem; developers can't issue App Store refunds.

How long can a recording be?

Up to thirty minutes. The recording saves automatically at the limit and listening carries on, so you can start another straight away.

How do I export or share a recording?

Open the recording in Library and tap the share button. Recordings are lossless CAF audio files that open in most audio software. To share just part of one, trim it first; trimming saves a new copy and leaves the original untouched.

Where are my recordings stored? Can I delete them?

Recordings stay in the app on your iPhone. Swipe a recording in Library to delete it. Deleting the app removes all of its recordings, so share anything you want to keep first.

What does the heart-rate number mean?

In Heart mode the app shows an experimental rate estimate after about ten seconds of steady sound. A grey dash means the audio didn't pass its quality checks, often because of movement, rubbing or background noise.

The estimate isn't clinically validated and isn't a health measurement. Don't rely on it for any medical decision.

Is this a medical device?

No. Stethoscope is for personal listening and education. It doesn't diagnose or assess health and must not be used for pregnancy monitoring or medical decisions. If you're worried about your health, see a professional, whatever you hear.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected]. It helps to include your iPhone model, iOS version, the app version (from About & privacy in the app) and what you were doing when the problem happened. Please don't send recordings unless you're happy to share them.
